Crystal Palace extends Mateta’s contract

Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contract option to remain at Crystal Palace until 2027 has been activated.

With his current contract expiring in June 2026, the 27-year-old Frenchman would have entered the final 18 months of his agreement at the beginning of the year.

However, BBC Sport Sport was informed by individuals familiar with the agreement that Palace had exercised the option to keep him committed to Selhurst Park for an additional two and a half years.

The news has not yet been formally confirmed by the club.

Due to his goal-scoring prowess, Mateta and the Eagles have been negotiating a new deal in recent months.

Since Oliver Glasner took over as manager of Crystal Palace, Mateta has developed into a vital member of the team.

Prior to scoring five goals with the French national team at the Olympics, where the squad earned a silver medal, he scored eleven goals in the final ten games of the previous season as the Eagles finished in tenth place.

In 21 appearances across all competitions so far this season, the striker has seven goals and two assists.

On Boxing Day, December 26, Palace, who are presently 16th in the Premier League standings, will travel to Bournemouth.
