Hammers take a setback as Bowen is sidelined with a broken foot.

Jarrod Bowen, West Ham’s captain, is expected to miss some time after sustaining a fractured left foot in Sunday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

The 28-year-old England attacker revealed he was injured in the first half but sought to continue playing.

Bowen ultimately went off and was replaced by Crysencio Summerville after 60 minutes as West Ham lost 5-0 at home to the league leaders.

“Unfortunately, in the first half of our game on Sunday I suffered a fracture to a bone in my foot,” his Instagram account stated.

“As always, I tried to fight on and play until I was physically unable.

“Injuries happen in football, but I’m really excited to get back out there as soon as possible. “See you all soon.”

Bowen is West Ham’s leading scorer in the league this season, with five goals and four assists.

The club has not offered a timetable for his comeback, but has stated that the injury “will sideline the Hammers captain heading into the New Year”.

Bowen’s injury is a setback for under-pressure manager Julen Lopetegui, whose team is currently 13th in the Premier League, eight points above the relegation zone.

West Ham face Manchester City in the league on Saturday.
